windows xp media center failure to set up network

new HP 1430n running XP mediacenter 2005, in trying to setup up network
between new desktop and HP laptop, the new deskstop is unable to see itself
in the workgroup

Check the workgroup haev the same name.

I have a new hp also and have the same problem. If you get it figured out
please let me know, and if i am successful, i will let you know. It would
seem to me that Hp should help with this but as you said, they want $60 to
help, and I am not sure that they could help anyway.

I have the same thing so i went in and assigned ip addresses to all of the
computers by hand and all are now communicating nicely.
