Hi,
My father (who is a novice when it comes to computers) recently purchased a
xp media center which I have set up for him in place of his old vcr, dvd
system. However I would like to change the original partition on his hard
drive.
It was originally set up as (approx) 10G for system recovery and two equally
sized 230G logical partitions (C:, D:). This is inconvenient as media center
only saves/records to one of the partitions and so half the drive is more or
less wasted since this is pretty much all my dad uses this pc for. I would
like to repartition it so that there are 3 partitions, a 20G partition for
windows and programs, another 20G for potential user data other than recorded
TV programs, and the remainding 450G for TV recording.
However I have googled that using Partition Magic may destroy the system
recovery partition. As the system did not come with any restore disks, I am
wary of doing this.
Does anyone have any experience with repartitioning their drive with a
system restore partition? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in
advance.

Hi ron8888:
Before you go to the effort of re-partioning your hard-drive you might
want to consider another option. You can designate which "drive"(partion)
you want Media Center to record content on very easily and therefore you
would not "waste" any drive space. Simply open the Media Center application,
right click on the window, click "settings", click "tv", click
"recorder", click "recorder storage" and then select the drive partitition
you wish media center to record on. All recorded content will show up in the
Media Center content list no matter where it is recorded. This is very
convenient since it allows you to add additional hard drives if you wish to
store a large number of recordings. I have close to 2 terabytes of recorded
shows (200+) to choose from on my Media Center pc. If you wish to save a
lot of content, you can also choose the quality of the recordings thru
settings.....lower quality allows you to save more content. I use "Better"
for most of my saved recordings but you can change the quality setting on a
particular show to whatever you wish. Live tv automatically plays back at
the "best setting" by default.
