This is a Window Media Center forum, your question would be better posted on
an XP General newsgroup.

Cleaning and compacting a registry can fix some problems, speed up the
booting, and may give a *slight* performance boost, however, you also can
mess things up royally. There are are many registry cleaners for sale or
download for free, the ones that do the most aggressive cleaning also can
cause (if something goes wrong) the most problems. I have used Registry
Mechanic many times and never had a problem, but it seems to take a fairly
passive (and safe) attempt at cleaning. You should do some research before
running one of these programs

Leave alone.

Most of them cause driver instability.I shall suggest you to stick to
the in-buit System Restore.

System Restore for Windows XP and Vista.

On Windows XP:
Start > Help and Support.

Under the Section PICK A TASK, choose Undo changes to your computer with
System Restore .
