I have an HP computer with Windows Media Center XP operating system.
Also have an Haupauge Tuner that accesses digital tv signals. When I
record programs using this setup, it records programs only in
Microsoft's proprietary format, which cannot be viewed on a tv set
using
Windows Media Center Extender.
My question, therefore, is it possible to record programs in a format
such as AVI,
VOB, MPEG, which are more universally transferable?
All replies welcomed! Aaron

Not sure if you just worded your question wrong or are confusing something.
The format used in the XP version of MC *IS* viewable on an MC Extender
(that is the point of the Extender, to view recorded shows elsewhere).
The format used in MC is actually mpeg with an additional "wrapper" to store
the TV show info. This format cannot be change during recording, however
various editing tools can convert this to AVI or some other format for use
on another device (or shrinking for use on a Zune or other media device.)
If you can't view recorded TV on an Extender, then there is some other issue
or problem. What are the specs of your PC and Extender?
