XBOX Extender Setup Failure

  Todd, hope you can help. my xbox Extender was working fine until I did the
update to 1.01. Should have just left it alone. I have followed all the tips
on getting this working in the newsgroup. It just won't connect. I am going
through a Linksys Wired Router to connect the PC and the Xbox. I can connect
to xbox live so i now the connection is good. I have attached the two files.
I have tried just about everything except calling the 1 800 4myxbox. This
would be a last resort. I followed your instructions below to the letter.

 I was having this same problem this weekend.  Don't do anything on the Xbox
just leave the 1.0.1 disk in the drive  and Uninstall the Media extender
Software reboot the MCE PC then Reinstall the Media Extender software make
sure you using the 1.0.1 disk for the PC, By that time the Xbox should give
you the key and will should wipe out any setting it has save so that it will
now connect with 1.0.1.  You may have to repeat this a few times to get it
to work (I did).  It's aggravating as #@%# but it's worth it once it's
working.

  Did you see a message on the Xbox to the effect of "do you want to connect
to a new PC"?  If not, what do you see on your Xbox?

If you do see this, there's still some old handshake data hanging around
somewhere (either on the Xbox or PC); updated instructions are below with
two added steps (3.1 on the PC and 3.1 on the Xbox) that confirm that this
data is wiped out.  Please let me know whether you see any leftover data in
either step 3.1.


First, do the following on your  Xbox:
1) Open the disc tray

Next, do the following on your Media Center PC:
1) Uninstall the MCX software from Add/Remove Programs under control panels
2) Delete the DvcConn.log and DvcSetup.log files from your Windows directory
3) Reboot your PC

3.1) Open regedit (Start --> Run, "regedit", <enter>) and navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaCenterPeripheral\DeviceTable; are
there any entries under DeviceTable?  (they'd look like
"00000000-0000-0000-xxxx-xxxxxxxxx" where the x's are lots of letters and
numbers).  If you see such entries, delete them.


Next, do the following on your Xbox:
1) From the Xbox dashboard, select Memory; click A to select the Xbox hard
drive
2) Select MCX for Xbox from the list of game titles that appears and press A
3) Press A to delete the stored information for MCX for Xbox; select Yes and
press A to confirm

3.1) Once you're back at the list of games with stored data on the hard
drive, verify that "Media Center Extender for Xbox" does not show up in the
list; if it does, delete it again.

4) Place the version 1.01 game disc in the disc tray and close the disc tray
5) When the Welcome screen appears, write down the setup key that is
displayed on screen.

Finally, return to your PC and do the following:
1) Insert MCX v1.01 CD and run setup
2) When prompted, type in the 8-digit setup key you wrote down above

If you still hit an error, please post your DvcConn.log and DvcSetup.log
files.
