I have a laptop with Windows XP Media Center edition. It boots partially,
some of the
desktop icons appear and then it hangs.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Does it boot in Safe Mode?
Have you tried System Restore to a time before the problem?

Not really related to Media Center, but I would boot to safe mode using F8
at startup and run system restore back to a point before the problem
started.
