Hello.I have Windows Media Player 10 using Windows XP Home Edition. My
computer is 10 months old and bought new.Twice in this year,my computer has
'lost' over 3000 tracks from my cd collection of 32,000. The loss is random
as only some tracks on each cd are affected. This time round, not only have I
'lost' 3000 tracks, but the information I typed in when 'ripping' a cd is now
being randomly altered without any help from me. The cd genres are being
automatically replaced,i.e.'Easy Listening' on am Alma Cogan cd is shown as
'Blues' in the genre. The Album Artists and Album Titles are renaming
themselves as though the computer is going online automatically and replacing
all my information with that from the net. So far,today,50cds have had these
'alterations' done without my knowledge. Also, all of these 50 cds have had
random tracks removed without my help. The solution last year was to uninstall
WMP10 and reinstall.I did this and spent 4 months 'ripping' my cd collection
back.I have checked for all known viruses, spyware, adware, malicious
software,registryware.All my security software is up-to-date.My so-called
'Support Line' have no idea what's going wrong.I have confused them.I have
tried a 'restore' back over 3 days, with no success. There is a liklihood that
all 32,000 tracks are going to be lost again.Have you ever come across this
and,if so,what,if any,is the solution please?I am desparate not to lose them
this time.I don't want to spend 3 months x 12 hours daily putting them all
back. Can you help me please.Thank you.

there are settings in wmp that by default are set to lookup info on music,
you can uncheck those and have it not auto watch folders. I turn all that
stuff off and manually fill in that info as you do. I wouldn't at all mind
if it did it correctly, as it would be a BIG help for people like me and you
who have large collections, but alas it does not do a good job of it. from
wmp under tools/options you will see the settings I described above.

Good luck
