Windows Media Center - TV signal setup question

 

I'm attempting to set up the tv signal in windows media center.  I have a
coaxial cable running from my set top box to the coaxial input on my pc.  I'm
getting a message that says "IR Hardware Not Detected."  I understand that
it's expecting me to connect something to the set top box IR.  Since my PC
and the set top box are in different rooms, I really can't have this.  I only
want to use windows media center periodically to record football games and
I'm OK with having a coaxial cable running across the floor for this short
duration.  I don't want to use the remote for this either.  I'll just
manually set windows media center to record the game.

Is there a way around this error message?  I've attempted to set up the tv
by telling WMC that I don't have a set top box but I haven't been able to get
any picture after this configuration.

I don't know if it makes any difference but I'm using Verizon Fios.  I used
to have Time Warner Cable and I was able to set this up without an issue.

If you are using a signal other than a direct hookup (cable right into the
card or antenna, etc.), i.e., no set top box, you must attached the IR
receiver to PC and the IR emitter to the IR receiver. You don't have to use
them later, but you need them to continue the set up normally.

There was a registry hack that was supposed to allow you to set up without
the IR hardware, it was posted in the last few weeks on this forum, but I
don't have the link. You might want to search here or thegreenbutton.com to
see if you can locate or perhaps, someone else here saved it.
