I not only get the warning everytime that Messenger is not installed, in
"Settings" the Messenger..telephone section no longer contains the option to
turn Messenger on and off. I have both regular and Live versions of
messenger installed and both seem to work. I suspect live is the culprit
because I still cannot get my Live to function properly and last heard from
the support people a couple of weeks ago. They are taking me in circles. I
have MCE ver 5.1.2715.3011 Update rollup 2 and XP sp3. I know this is not
an earth shattering problem but it is VERY annoying.

You are stuck with this.
It is integral to Vista.

The uninstall of 946648 brought back the choice to enable/disable messenger
in MC. The re-install of it has had no ill effects (so far) and the
irritating "warning" is gone. It said it might affect Live messsnger and I
don't care since nothing about live is working and the other program it
mentioned was my Weather Channel Desktop which seems to be working fine both
before and after the re-install of 946648. Thanks for the help.

Windows Live Messenger and Windows Messenger (the cause of the issues within
Media Center) are completely different programs. Other than the fact that
they connect to the same service, that's about all they have in common.

For the purposes of the error you are seeing, they are completely
independent of each other.
