I performed a system recovery using the CD that came with my Gateway GT5012
Windows XP MCE computer. The computer is only 4 months old. Now I am having
numerous problems. I had contacted Gateway but they say I have changed my
operating system which nullifys my warranty??? Would a system recovery
change an operating system? I didn't change anything intentionally and I
don't know how one would change an OS anyway.
1. System now shows no sound card installed
2. Media center now says my video card or drivers are not compatible with MCE
3. Can not play DVD because a campatible DVD decoder is not installed
4. Could not find any compatible Direct 3D devices.
5. Can not install video controller - can't find drivers
6. Can not install SM Bus controller - can't find drivers.
Per the Gateway Rep if the recovery process fails the only option
available to me is to purchase a retail version of the Windows
XP Operating but not the Media Center Edition because it comes with the
system and is not sold separately.
Any ideas what could've caused all this and is there any way to fix besides
buying software I already bought with the computer. Gateway doesn't provide
you with anything except the recovery disk.
