My system had been chuntering away quite nicely for the last 2 years, 5 min
boot up, reasonable program startup times, including Internet Explorer. I
use McAfee security suite and recently they revamped the package, sending out
a download which included new system cleanup features.
I ran the cleanup, using every feature to spring clean my system. Big
mistake. It can now take upwards of 10 mins to boot up, program starts take
several minutes and whenever McAfee send out a new download, which is just
about every day, the system goes into gridlock for the duration.
I discovered that on Control Panel, under System, under Advanced, the Virual
memory was about 128mb. I increased that to 750mb & got a temporary
improvement. The other two settings under Advanced, Processor Scheduling and
Memory Usage, are both set to Program on the radial button
I/m trying to restore my settings to before I downloaded the McAfee upgrade
but I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to delving into the innards of a PC.
Any help or suggestions would be most welcome.
