My system has been runing veeery slowly over the last few months. Certain
programs will freeze or just shut down altogether. Mostly it happens to my
Internet Explorer, but does happen with opther programs as well. I've done
the error-checking, disk cleanup, defragment, and add remove programs (have
been very selective with what I've removed because I don't want to cause
further problems by removing the wrong thing). I have 69.8 GB on my computer
of which 34.4 GB are free space. Does anyone have advice on what I can do to
improve my performance???

Delete the Temporary Internet files and Cookies.

Scan the computer for malware.
And remove any that is found.

Hi CSM1,

Thanks much for the quick response. Forgot to mention that I've tried those
too. Ran the McAfee scan and delete the temp internet files and cookies
pretty regularly. Any other suggestions?...

This group is for Windows Media Center issues, yours is a general issue that
should be reposted to a more appropriate
group such as xp.general.

Since we have no idea what make/model of computer you have or what release
of what operating system you are running it is hard for anyone here to help
you. However,it sounds like you have been infected with a virus and you
should check task manager to see what process/application is consuming your
CPU power.
