Hi,

I'm just about to invest in a new laptop (Sony Vaio FE21S with MCE2005)
which has S-video out and a native resolution of 1280x768. I also own a 26"
Sony LCD Television which also has a maximum resolution of 1280x768 and an
S-Video in socket. Unfortunately it doesn't have VGA/DVI/DHMI sockets.

So the question is if I purchase this laptop, will I be able to connect it
to the television using S-Video and use the TV as a monitor in full
resolution so that it's usable?

Many thanks,
Francis

Most graphics cards that support S-video out do so by using a Scan Converter
chip the converts a 620x480 or 8000x600 image to to a 480i standard S-Video
output ( In North America) some of the these scan converter chips can also
downscale 1024x768 to S-Video 480i to meet the S-Video standard but no
resolutions above that.

S-Video is always 480i, so you need some other input capable of higher
resolution, like component (in addition to the ones you mention), to
get close to native resolution.
