Is there a document that lists the registry keys and their values for Media
Center?  Someone must know what all those magic words mean.  It shouldn't be
a secret, should it?

Also, anyone have any comments on a product called Registry Doctor?  Does it
do any good or harm?  I ran the free scan and it reported a bunch of
potential problems, but most of them probably do nothing more than add to the
size of the registry.

Don't bother with registry 'fixers'.  If you know enough about the registry,
you don't need those programs.  If you don't know enough about the registry,
you don't want those programs.

There is very little upside to those types of programs.  They are more
likely to cause you issues.

That's what I thought and why I asked about the Registry Documentation.  I
frequently find myself in REGEDIT and would really like to know more about
it, especially for MC and XP.

Every now and the, I go to Amazon, or to a big local bricks & mortar
book store, or to Fry's, and I try to find a book that will help with
the registry.

So far, every book I've looked at or otherwise investigated doesn't
seem to tell me more than I already know.

Which is damn little!

BTW, registry repair programs and registry cleanup programs scare the
living - uh, daylights - out of me as well. They present a huge (hence
unmanageable) list of changes they will make unless you uncheck them,
individual or "uncheck all", but no apparent guidance as to what you
should decide.

And the few items I recognize look either harmless or *necessary* to my
system...
