The laptop this is coming from has only a 20Gb HDD that is presently
partitioned into two halves. I can managed to delete the second partition
with the Win XP disc management tools but not then resize the C partition to
make use of the other space. Should I be able to or do I still need a
partition manager?
thanks
Richard
PS
I've backed all the data up but nothing of the system

Firstly I've partially answered my own question from a reply further down the
list.
Secondly I'm having such grief from the partition manager saying that volume
C is in use that I've deleated it for the present
What is involved in doing the destructive version of reformat given that
I've just had a brand new 400Gb hard drive that's just waiting for something
to put on it. Can I just copy the whole of the c drive, re format with 2
unequal partitions and then paste everything back
