Problem with Svchost

  Hi,

I have a problem with Svchost consuming 99-100% of the CPU and making the
machine almost inoperable, somthing that has bee occurring since I installed
SP3(RC).   I have read a number of the articles here and whilst the problem
has already been discussed, none of the suggested solutions seems to fix the
problem.

The problem seems to occur on boot and whenever I try to download Windows
updates from the MS update site.   When I close the program using Task
Manager it frees up the CPU but also has other undesired effects including
changing the blue taskbar at the bottom of the screen to an off white colour.
  The change is only temporary because as soon as I try to update windows the
whole things starts over.   I have disabled automatic updates.

Using process explorer, I checked the details of the svchost file and the
following details are shown under the image tab:

I have service pack 3 installed (release candidate) and when I try to
download the Msi.dll hotfix (927891) I am informed that I have a later
version and that there is no need for the installation.   I am very concerned
about not being able to download any updates and am seeking a workaround to
enable me to resolve this issue.   Any suggestions?

More complaints more chance a getting a quick solution. Here is the

It looks as if Microsoft might have solved the problem.  I was able to boot
my computer without going into a loop for 30 minutes this morning.
I was also able to do a search for new updates without any problem.  

I will keep my fingers crossed and hope that it is permanent.
