I am getting a MCE XP PC soon and wish to know is it possible to partition
the Hard Drive. I am getting a PC with 250Gig of memory and wish to know is
it going to work with Patition Magic d/loaded?

I am a newbie to MCE and would like to know as much about this as I have
many photos to d/load onto this PC. I wish then to make a backup of the
Harddrive with Ghost 10. Is all of this a good idea on MCE.

A while back (several months ago), someone posted that Ghost
didn't work with MCE 2005.  You should check with Symantec
to see if MCE 2005 is a supported OS.

If not, there are other options for creating images of your
hard drive.

But in general, I like to keep the OS installed on its own
partition (or drive), and all my documents, media, etc. on
another partition (or drive).  That way, if you need to
reinstall the OS for some reason, it is a lot less painful.

  THanks Bob,

I will check to see if Ghost is ok with MCE 2005 from Symantec.

As for the partition, is it easy to d/load Partition Magic and splitting the
harddrive. When it comes the Os and a few applications will be on there. Is
it ok to split it into OS and the applications I will use and one patition
for the data and media? I have not had to partition before you see.

It's very easy to create a new partition with software
like Partition Magic.  Again, check to make sure it's
compatible with MCE 2005 before paying for it.

I was the one who had problems with Ghost...but I don't remember if it was
Ghost 8 or 9. Also had problems with Partition Manager. Then again, it could
have been that crappy hard drive I was using too...it eventually failed
completely and was thrown away and replaced.

I do agree that any system, MCE or otherwise, should have the OS (C:) as a
small partition (20-40Gb) or drive, and the data partition (D:) should be a
large partition or separate drive.
