Help!!! I recently bought a Dell Media Center PC with the XPMCE2005. I have
an xbox  and bought the extender kit. I have been going through heck trying
to set it up for the last week. I have been on hold for hours on end with
Microsoft, transferred to countless departments, disconnected or hung up on,
called back many times just to hear they are closed now or transferred some
more. Then the final person tried to convince me that Media Extender was
Dell's problem since it talked with XP Media Center Edition which came with
the computer. Then a few other people I had to spend time explaining to them
what a Media  Extender even is or what XP Media Center Edition can do for
you.

Anyways so my deal is I cannot install the extender. I have researched
heavily on all the forums and done all the things. The wireless connection is
fine. I have uninstalled, reinstalled many times. I am just using McAfee
Viruscan Enterprise 8.0f and whatever comes with Windows. DOn't use MS
anitspyware at all. Xbox config says wireless conneciton is excellent. BUt I
can only get past verifying the 8digit product key and then it tries to talk
but can't. PC says can't detect Extender and Extender says can't connect or
communicate with PC. I tried everything. Here is the DvcConn and DvcSetup:

 Few questions:
- What does your home network look like? Specifically, how are your PC and
Xbox connected? (wired/wireless, what make/model hub/router/switch, etc.)
- What are the IP addresses of your Xbox and your PC?
- Are you running a third-party firewall? (e.g. Norton, ZoneAlarm, etc.)

  Todd,

-Dell 8400 XPMCE2005 w/ 2 tuners
-Linksys wireless router WRT55AG w/ 802.11a/g
-XBOX and MCX rollup 1.01
-D-Link DGL-3420 wireless gaming adapter
-McAfee Viruscan enterprise 8.0f
-Windows Firewall

The PC is connected to the router by wire and the XBOX is connected to
internet by the wireless adapter. All DHCP and using WEP 128bit. There is
also a laptop connected wirelessly but I am connecting that via 802.11g and
the XBOX is connected 802.11a as recommended. I have no idea if the McAfee
Viruscan has a built in firewall in the program but I can't find where to get
at its configuration if there is. And then perhaps the router has a firewall?

PC IP: 192.168.1.103
XBOX IP: 192.168.1.117

From my internet research on this issue, I've come across your name many
times - seems you da man so I am crossing my fingers to be yet another one
saved.

Thanks!

 Robert,

Your addresses look good, so this doesn't appear to be an IP connectivity
issue.  Can you check the Application, System, Security, and Media Center
Event Viewer logs (right click My Computer --> Manage) for any errors
corresponding to the time that you tried to set up your MCX then post them
here?  Also, would it be possible to temporarily wire your Xbox directly to
your router to bypass the wireless hop?

Couple other misc. questions:
- Are you running the latest Linksys (not third-party) firmware on your
router?
- Do you have any Xbox-branded wireless bridges on your home network?

thanks,
Todd

 Todd.

I did what you said to do in one of the other forums: create a start from
scratch - so I uninstalled all mcx stuff and removed from xbox memory and pc.
rebooted all.

Redid the setup and no error messages in any of the event viewers - they are
all information messages saying successful whatevers.

DvConn shows error in timeout of security code exchange:

I have the latest linksys firmware and I do not have any other xbox branded

msn gaming adapter?
