I recently bought a media center extender, but I can get it to work with my
HP computer.
Going through the setup everything seems to go fine until it tries to verify
the "security ". At that point the media center extender shows a "general
failure" with the "error code 2003" and reboots.
Looking at the event log on the media center computer, I get the following
messages:
AffConfirm RQ- Device - successfully
affiliated
ERROR: KeyExch RQ3 Device - There was
an error processing this request. Error code 0x80004005
I switched all my firewalls off, I tired wired connection, a wireless
connection, a different router, I even tried a direct x-over cable between
the PC and the extender to make sure the hub was not interfering, but no
success. It keeps giving me this error message.
Any suggestions??
Thanks

One more point, I have 2nd harddrive in computer which is a dynamic drive (it
only contains data, no operating system files and has its own drive letter).
Since I know that dynamic drives can cause problems, I disconnected the drive
but still the same problem. Can this still have anything to do with my
dynamic drive? Is there anything else I need to do to get around the dynamic
drive problem? The dynamic drive disappeared from the disk manager after I
disconnected it. It seemed to me that this would have solved any dynamic
drive problem if there would have been one...
Correct?

Dynamic drives usually cause issues, but I wouldn't expect this specific

Hi Todd,
Thanks for your input. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the PC
extender software and reseting the extender. In matter of fact, I even
brought my original extender back to the store and got another one since I
first thought it was product related. Furthermore, I also reinstalled the HP
windows XP that came with my computer.
I am wondering if there is anyway that some other software/router is still
interfering with the extender (this is also why I tried to direct x-over
ethernet cable). Is there any way to check the communication between the
extender and the PC?
In any case, here is the contents of my log files:

This behavior is consistent with something blocking some of the necessary
network traffic (odd given that you said you disabled your firewall). The
fact that you see this with a cross-over cable eliminates your router/switch
as a possible culprit. Can you provide more information regarding the
firewall/intrusion detection/anti-virus/privacy software installed on your
PC, including what state it is in? In some cases, firewalls will still
block traffic even when set to disabled, so it would help isolate the issue
if you temporarily uninstalled any third-party firewall software and enabled
the Windows Firewall instead.
