MCE 2005 has been working well for more than a year. It does not work any
more. The Live TV has no picure, just one click sound at the beginning. When
it play the recorded TV, it will play a couple of seconds then stop. Looks
like when you play a copy right protected viedo tape to it. It cannot play my
old recorded TV which worked in MCE before although they can be played
without any problem with Media Player 10. It can play some old recodred TVs
if it is not movie.

I went to the Live TV, it was blank, I did a record. After it, I can play it
back using Media Player but not MCE. So the Tuner works.

I used the decoder check program of MS, it only list the InterVido WinDVD's
decoder and it is set as prefered, and compatiable with MCE.

I did reset the MCE, go to Windows Update site downloaded MCE update, no
help.
System restore did not work.
So I do not know what software installed could cause this.

Thanks in advance for any help!.

What make/model graphics card do you have?  Do you have latest drivers for
it from the graphics chip vendors Website (ATI, NVIDIA etc)?

  Thanks for the reply.

The graphic card is nVidia GeGForce 6600. I tried the update driver in the
device manager, no new driver was found.

I do not think it is graphic card issue because Media Player can play the
recorded file without problem.

Thanks again.

You need to go to Nvidia's website to get an updated driver, not device
manager. Just because Media Player is working does not mean it's not a
graphics driver issue.

Media player uses overlay video rendering and MCE use VMR video rendering
which is why the graphics card driver is so important since it it the
graphics card hardware acceleration that controls and performs the
rendering.
You need to go to the NVIDIA Website to get the latest driver for your card.
Device manager only looks for drivers that you have already installed on
your system.
