I own Windows XP Media Center Edition but cannot find my card with the serial
number. I activated my version and registered with Microsoft years ago, but
am about to reinstall windows. Obviously, I cannot do that without the
serial number. Is there a way I can either get the serial number from the
computer it is running on, or from Microsoft directly (without paying a $500+
technical assistance fee)?
Regards.

The serial number you are looking for is actually called the product key and
can be found with any one of many free utilities which are easily located
via a search of the web.

I'm lost, if you wanted to use the productkey progam because you didn't know
what the key was, how do you know it is incorrect?
