I bought my computer in 2004 and it came with windows XP media center
edition.  When I tried to upgrade windows media player 11.  I get a message
saying I do not have windows media center 2005.

Is there any way to upgrade to windows media center 2005 without buying or
installing a whole new version of windows XP.

Is there anyway to work around this and install windows media player 11?

I'm running Windows XP media center edition, service pack 3.  Sony Viao 1.5
gig RAM; Pentum 4 CPU 3.2 gigahertz and 230 GB hard drive ;  I think Graphics
is Nvidia but not sure which one .

I appreciate your help

Several of the manufacturers sent out free 2005 upgrade depending on when
you purchased the PC with 2004. That offer has long past, but you might
contact the manufacturer and see if they are still sending out upgrades for
free (unlikely, but worth a shot). Otherwise find somebody else with a Sony
and who has the upgrade disc or purchase a copy of 2005 and do a fresh
install (~$120) or wait for Windows 7 and upgrade (if your hardware supports
it).

Don't remember offhand what the upgrade path from XP involves.
