I have a Linksys Media Center Extender that I cannot get to connect to the
MC PC when on a different subnet. I have the MC PC on a wired LAN subnet of
192.168.95.xx. My Media Center Extender is on my wireless segment of
192.168.96.xx. If I put the MCE on the wired LAN it does connect no problem
so I know it is not the PC that is blocking. I have the firewall configured
to allow everything to cross between those two subnets. Yet when I turn on
the MCE it says it cannot contact the MC PC.
How does the MCE find the MC PC? What protocol is it using? Is the MC PC
broadcasting or is the MCE broadcasting for the MC PC?

The Media Center and MCX need to be on the same subnet in order to connect.
Out of curiosity, why do you have separate subnets for your wired and
wireless network segments?

I am running a Netscreen firewall that does not allow the wired and wireless
to be on the same subnet for security reasons.

to be on the same subnet for security reasons.
Wow - that's quite a fancy piece of hardware to be using at home :-)

Have you tried a subnet mask of 255.255.192.0? Set it so on all the
devices on the net.
The subnet mask says that IP-address bits must match where the mask has
a 1-bit, and can vary at will where the mask has a zero bit. 192 works
for 95 and 96, which are 0101 1111 and 0110 0000; 192 is 1100 0000.
I am not sure whether this will work, but it seems worth a try. I
*have* used this technique successfully, when I installed a new
ethernet device which had an IP address of 192.168.0.x on my network of
192.168.1.x; the mask was 255.255.254.0 in my situation. I changed it
back once I reassigned the new device's IP address.
