OK, so now I am wondering if I only have 1 STB, then, I am probably OK
to just get a single tuner card, this way, I can still watch a
non-premium channel, while recording a premium 1 (or vice versa) or am
I missing something?

With a single tuner and one STB, you can only watch
or record a single channel at a time. If you want
to watch one channel while recording another, you'll
need a dual tuner setup, and use either two STBs or
no STBs.

Any idea if this limitation will ever change? Until PC's can use CableCards
(and we even get CableCards here in Canada) having a stack of STB's looks
pretty ugly.
Simply treat the limited channels on a first come first use basis. ie. If a
program is recording on the STB, then I can only watch the second tuner
(which has no STB) on non-STB channels. If I'm watching a STB channel and
MCE needs it to record, do the pop-up warning thing.
The guide could show all channels available regardless of source, and grey
out any channel that currently was not available do to tuner usage.

I think I am asking the same question here, but let's see:
Can you use a dual-tuner MCE with one STB on one tuner and hook a forked
cable feed straight into the other? Would that work? If not, would it work if
you hooked, say, a VCR into the second tuner and told the MCE that it is an
STB? It doesn't seem like the MCE should care what it is it is IR blasting,
right?
