When doing Add music my MCE just does an intensive search on the network but
returns with an error stating "MCE cannot detect any shared folders on your
network....". I can see the the shared folders on the other machine when in
WinXP and play the files. I've also tried to map the share but it will not
show in the add local folders.
What am I doing wrong?

Have you had a any luck with this issue? I am trying to get MCE 2004 to
access a mapped drive for media. The mapped drive is a NAS on my home
network. IT is driving me nuts.

Yepp, my solution was to make sure all the computers belonged to the same
workgroup, then it worked.

How did you get the XP MCE PC to be visible on the network? I've added my XP
station to a workgroup, but it's not visible. Any ideas what could be wrong?
It is going through a link sys printer switch.

Can it be pinged from another computer on the network? Are the workgroup
names spelled exactly the same on all PCs? Do all PCs have the same users &
passwords? Do any of them have firewalls, and if so, have the firewalls been
tweaked to allow them to see or respond to other PCs on the network?
Finally, have you looked at the software pages for your firewall/router?
Some can be setup to only allow certain NIC MAC addresses, so in that case
you'll need to find out that machine's MAC address and add it to the
router's list. You can find this out on the suspect PC by entering "ipconfig
/all" from a DOS window.
