I am able to watch videos from my Media Center, but when I try to watch them
on my XBox Extender, I get the following error message

"Video cannot be viewed in Media Center from a Remote Desktop Connection"

Is there anything that I can do to change this?

See if Transcode 360 helps you.

To add to my brother's posting, the reason you need to transcode the video
is because the Xbox Extender can only play back a limited amount of video
formats.

The formats that the Xbox Extender can play back are the following
Video file formats supported:

Windows Media Video 9 main profile
    WMA Standard audio
    Max resolution 720x480
    Max bit-rate 4Mbps
WMV content may be Windows Media DRM-protected
MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 standard definition
MPEG-1 layers I and II audio
Standard Definition DVR_MS (Recorded TV) at all quality settings (Fair
through Best)

Any other formats that you want to play back that are not on the above list
need to be transcoded into one of these formats.  This is what Transcode 360
will do for you.

Hope this answers your question.

What format are the videos you're trying to play? (WMV 9, MPEG-1, MPEG-2,
etc.?).  It's possible the files aren't supported as Gary/Jason mention, but
it's odd that you're seeing this particular message (normally in these cases
you should see a message saying "Video Error: ...")

 Todd.

The format question is a good one because I have no idea.  I took a dvd that
I purchased and ran it through some software to save it to my hard drive and
then I can watch it on the PC running Media Center.  I just can't watch it
using the extender.  I don't think that this is illegal copying of the dvd if
I purchased it and am keeping it for my own use.  If it is I'll delete, but
if it isn't what software will convert the dvd to a supported Media Center
and XBox Extender format?
