I have a Windows MCE remote control (Microsoft model) and I wonder if I can
use it in standard Windows XP?
Cheers.

standard XP does not but if you have the bits around why not just try it.
What I can say is that the MCE Remote can control iTunes in MCE (when iTunes
is open in the foreground).

Actually, SP2 provides support for the Remote in all versions of XP. I use
mine in another application (BeyondTV), but it works in Media Player too.
