Hi, I have a Media Center PC which records my TV shows, and Windows Media
Player 10 automatically converts and copies them to the Pocket PC, running
WMP10 also. Lovely.
Only thing is, I have this lovely big VGA screen on the new Windows Mobile
2005 HTC Universal device (O2 Xda Exec), and the videos take up about
one-quarter of it at best :-S
I have changed the 'Quality' settings in WMP10 but they make no difference
to the dimensions of the image.
Any ideas welcomed! Surely MS aren't silly enough to limit the picture size
to the older PPC screens only? I want full screen video! :P

Thanks.

Yes they are silly enough to assume a 320x240 screen and convert to that
format. I don't know if there is anything you can do from Media Player and
the automatic conversion, but you can do your own conversion using Windows
Media Encoder, a free download. Be aware though that your file size could
quadruple. There are four times as many pixels/per frame when going from
320x240 to 640x480.
Part of the blame should be on HTC as well, though. I have a Dell Axim X50,
also a VGA (640x480) device. 320x240 wmv videos actually play full screen on
it. Not sure if that is due to the software or the graphics coprocessor it
uses, but they have circumvented the 1/4 screen problem that most VGA PPCs
have.

As the post above suggests, you may go into the options of WMP on the PPC and
go to the video tab where you can check the box that resizes the video to fit
the screen.

Why is it that when I check the 'Scale to fit window' option, the video
still plays 320x240, with a black border all around it filling the rest of
the screen?

Thanks.

Because it will scale larger videos down, but can't scale smaller videos up.
By size I mean vertical and horizontal pixels, of course.
