I've seen a couple other examples of this problem but without any real
resolution to the symptoms and am begging for any alternative solutions.

I have a Linksys MCX wired directly via CAT5e to a Gateway 820GM. It's
worked wonderfully in the past but since I relocated residences, I can't get
it to hold onto the menu screen; it will appear from 1/2 second to 30 seconds
and then blink out into only a blue screen and remain that way.

The only difference in the configuration is that I currently don't have
internet access and though it connects with or without the router, I removed
the router from the circuit for simplicity's sake for the time being.

After ensuring all ports were intact (5555, 7777, etc.) I disabled the
internal Microsoft firewall as well as my Zone Alarm firewall but with no
joy.

I completely uninstalled the extender, cleaned up the files & registry using
WinTools.net, and rebooted twice. I also started from scratch with an
extender reset. I reloaded the software and updated the extender to the
latest rollup - as I have with all other drivers and rollups.

Note that with no internet access, I had to manually enter the key codes via
phone and enter the corresponding group keys based on the response from the
electronic voice system.

Heck, even though it connects, momentarily shows the menu but flips to the
blue screen, I can use the MCX Manager to update the extender and my TV will
display the screen notifying me of the update but not to reset the extender -
which is accepted but then soon reverts back to the blue screen.

I would be deeply indebted to anyone with an alternative method to resolve
this problem.

As a side note, I would always get an error advisory of 00000002 that did
not allow the MCX to connect to the MCE until I gave the MCX administrator
privileges. Don't ask me why the S/W didn't do this automatically but it has
always worked for me if I had to start with a fresh install.

Thanks in advance.
