hi i need some help with this one.i think i have a virus on my
computer.i am running xp pro.
the error says task manager has been disabled by your
administrator.there is a white screen can not do nothing.try to
reformat will not let me boot by my cd.can i put in new hard drive and
try to reboot using my windows xp cd? stumped on this one.been workig
on computer for a lone time.

I'm come across a virus that does what you describe, might
be the same or might not but normally it is not going to
effect your ability to boot from the CD.

I suspect you have a damaged XP boot cd or your bios setting
is wrong, not selected to boot from CD first, and that is
why it can't boot.

yes i set it to boot from cd and i have to copys of windows xp and i
reformatted about 30 computers with these xp cd?

There is one called ld10 that does that. Been there, done that. The
first hit
was about 4 days of intermittent work to get things back to
normal and to clear
the re-infection process.

You can re-enable task manager, can't recall how, but the info is
available on
the web.

Once you have task manager and msconfig available take a look at what
startup
under msconfig has added to what you really want.

Most of the problem stuff is listed in task manager as started by owner
and will
have legitimate names, just called from different locations.
And the different
locations will be listed in msconfig.

Then you get to clean out the registry. But miss some and all the junk
gets
loaded again.
