need help with mouse loading

  occasionally when i boot my system the mouse fails to load, the
pointer goes busy, retuns to a pointer and remains immobile.  there is
no light in the mouse itself, it is connected to a usb port in back of
the computer.   i can then take another mouse and plug into one of the
front usb ports and that mouse works normally.  any idea what is
causing this intermittent problem??
