Hi there --
I now little about computers.  I bought a really cheap PC running
Lindows at a garage sale (was originally from Walmart).  It is a:

Microtel Sysmar747, AMD 1.2Ghz Duron

I have wiped Lindows, but it is too slow running XP.  It only has 128
megs of RAM!

Can someone tell me:

1. how much RAM it can take?
2. what kind of RAM it takes?
3. where to buy it online?

I have no original manuals for this PC, and the homepage for Microtel
is useless (see http://www.microtelpc.com  -- they have no support for
older PCs).  I have spent 2 days googling, and my friend suggested I
post in a newsgroup.

Thanks guys,
Amy

Depends on what mainboard it has. Open it up and look.

pricewatch.com

You'll need to open up the side panel and get the numbers off the
mainboard. Someone said they used Gigabit mainboards, but you need to know
the model number. At a minimum, both the ram and cpu can be upgraded but
without the MB model can't tell you much more.

Well,I would have suggested going to Crucial.com but there's no listing
there for Microtel. It looks like you'll have to open the pc, take out the
memory and copy down what's written there.
You could try CPU-Z. It might give you just enough info to get started.
Downoad CPU-Z at www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php

Thanks for the responses!

And thanks, Blindside, for that link.  Maybe I don't have to open up
the computer afterall?

You said my computer can take:

Can I assume then I can buy 2x512 MB SDRAMs for 1024 MB total?  (And
replace the 128 that came with it?)

Furthermore, what about the speed or number of pins?  The link to buy
you gave me said "Rosewill 512MB 168-Pin SDRAM Unbuffered PC 133 System
Memory - Retail", so does that mean for my particular computer I need
168-Pin and PC 133, or will other combos work?

Thanks again for everyone's help!

Amy
